Position Statement on Bariatric Surgery

The International Diabetes Federation has today released its Position Statement on Bariatric Surgery. The Paper calls for bariatric surgery to be considered earlier in the treatment of eligible patients, to help stem the serious complications that can result from diabetes. The position paper is being presented to leading experts at the 2nd World Congress on Interventional Therapies for Type 2 Diabetes currently taking place in New York.

The statement was written by experts in diabetes and bariatric surgery from IDF’s taskforce on Epidemiology and Prevention. It  contains a series of recommendations on the use of weight loss surgery as a cost effective treatment option for severely obese people with type 2 diabetes.

We invite you to circulate this among your members and promote it on your websites and newsletters. Please visit http://www.idf.org/idf-releases-position-paper-bariatric-surgery
